4 Principles of the Method
In XRF analysis, an X-ray source irradiates the sample. The source can be an X-ray tube or a sealed radioactive isotope.
When the source X-rays are irradiated, they may be scattered or absorbed by the sample atoms. When an atom absorbs the source X-rays, the incident radiation will Electrons are removed from the innermost shell of the atom, creating a vacancy. Electrons from the outer shells will fill the vacancy and emit X-ray photons.
The energy of the emitted X-rays depends on the difference between the energy of the shell and the initial vacancy and the energy of the electron that fills the vacancy.
By measuring the energy of the radiation, it is possible to determine which elements are present in the sample.
By measuring the intensity of the emitted energy, it is possible to quantify the content of a specific element in the sample.
Method Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectroscopy is used to determine the lead content in homogeneous pyrotechnic compositions.
Pyrotechnic compositions with a mass fraction in the range of 100mg/kg to 50,000mg/kg. Pyrotechnic compositions with a mass fraction less than 100mg/kg (100ppm) Other test methods should be used.
The geometry (orientation) of the tube detector assembly needs to remain constant. Therefore, the sample is usually prepared as a compressed flat disk and then Placed very close to the tube window, strict requirements are placed on the placement and flatness of the sample disc surface to ensure repeatable X-ray flux.
