FAQ for GB/T 45098-2024
What is GB/T 45098-2024?
GB/T 45098-2024, "Technical requirements for the battery swap service of commercial battery electric vehicles", is a Chinese national standard for battery swapping of electric vehicles used in commercial passenger and freight transport, such as taxis, ride-hailing cars, buses and trucks. It covers the general requirements, station functions and configuration, the service process and service guarantees.
When does GB/T 45098-2024 apply?
GB/T 45098-2024 was issued on 28 November 2024 by SAMR and the Standardization Administration of China and has applied since 1 March 2025.
How long may a battery swap take under GB/T 45098-2024?
No more than 4 minutes for city taxis and ride-hailing cars and no more than 6 minutes for other commercial electric vehicles, measured from when the vehicle is in place until the swap is complete. At highway service areas, other commercial vehicles should be swapped within 5 minutes.
What state of charge must a swapped battery have under GB/T 45098-2024?
The battery fitted to the vehicle must be fault-free and generally charged to at least 80 % of full charge. If the batteries available at the station are below 80 %, the driver must be told before entering.
What must a battery swap station have under GB/T 45098-2024?
At least 3 battery storage spaces at initial construction, preferably expandable; battery status identification and screening; manual operation and a one-button emergency stop; and compatibility with two or more vehicle brands and models. Stations in ports need wind, corrosion and IP54 water protection; stations in mines and transport hubs need dust protection.
Which standards does GB/T 45098-2024 rely on for battery interchangeability?
QC/T 1201 for the on-board swap systems of commercial trucks, QC/T 1204 for passenger vehicles, GB/T 32879 and GB/T 33341 for stations, and GB/T 29772 for the general requirements of swap stations. After the swap, the vehicle's dimensions and mass must still comply with GB 1589.
Is GB/T 45098-2024 available in English?
Yes. ChinaStandards.org offers an English version of GB/T 45098-2024, including the station requirements and the service process before, during and after the swap, with invoice.

Scope
GB/T 45098-2024 is the English-translated version of 营运纯电动汽车换电服务技术要求.
GB/T 45098-2024 sets the technical requirements for battery swapping of commercial electric vehicles: taxis, ride-hailing fleets, buses and heavy trucks, where the vehicle earns money only while it is moving and a forty-minute charge is a cost that a three-minute swap removes.
China is the only country where swapping has reached scale, and this standard governs the service rather than the hardware.
It covers the requirements on the swap station and its operation, on the vehicle and battery interface and the identification and authentication between them, on the process of the swap itself including the safety interlocks and the verification before release, on the condition and the state of health of the batteries in circulation and how they are tracked, on the charging of the batteries in the station, on the data exchanged between vehicle, station and platform, on the service records and the traceability of each battery, and on the emergency handling.
For a fleet operator, a station builder or a vehicle maker in China, this is the service specification.
