Scope

GB/T 44971-2024 is the English-translated version of 土壤硒含量等级.

GB/T 44971-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering the grading of farmland by how much selenium the ground holds — the total selenium and the plant-available fraction a crop can take up, the pH bands that move the thresholds because the same figure means different things in acid and alkaline soil, the sampling and detection behind a grade, and the table that separates selenium-rich land from land carrying enough that the produce turns too high. A soil can be short of selenium and carry too much of it within one order of magnitude, which is why the document grades rather than passes or fails. First edition, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In force from 1 March 2025. Issued on 28 November 2024, it has been in force since 1 March 2025.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Total selenium in soil

The sum of the selenium content in all forms of selenium in soil.

3.2

Selenium in the soil that can be absorbed and utilized by crops.

Note. Including but not limited to water-soluble and exchangeable selenate ions, selenite ions, selenium-containing organic small molecules and nano-selenium.

4 Classification of soil selenium content

The classification of soil selenium content should comply with the requirements of Table 1.

Table 1 Classification of soil selenium content Soil Selenium Level pH Value Total selenium content in soil (x)a mg/kg Available selenium content in soil (y)a mg/kg illustrate High Selenium - x >3.0 y >0.50 Selenium in edible agricultural products produced The content may be too high Selenium-rich pH<=5.5 0.40< x<=3.0 5.5< pH<=7.5 0.35< x<=3.0 pH >7.5 0.30< x<=3.0 0.05< y<=0.50 Producing selenium-rich edible agricultural products Product potential
