Scope

GB/T 44596-2024 is the English-translated version of 中文域名编码技术要求.

GB/T 44596-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering the encoding that turns a Chinese-character domain name into the ASCII form the DNS can carry — the string preprocessing framework with its mapping, normalization, disallowed output and bidirectional character rules, the handling of unassigned code points, the Punycode encoding built on Bootstring with its parameter values and algorithm, the normative reserved-character, mapping, prohibited-output and bidirectional tables, and the worked encoding examples that let an implementer check the algorithm. One of the Chinese domain name standards, alongside the overall requirements, resolution, registration and domain name table documents. First edition, under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In force from 1 January 2025. Issued on 29 September 2024, it has been in force since 1 January 2025.
