GB/T 44086.1-2024 specifies the user management module interface of a BeiDou-3 regional short message communication terminal. Short message communication is the capability that distinguishes BeiDou from the other global navigation systems: the constellation can carry a short two-way message as well as a position, which is why it is used on fishing vessels, in disaster response and across remote infrastructure where no other link exists. The user management module is the secure element that holds the terminal's identity and its service authorisation, and this part defines the interface between it and the terminal so that modules and terminals from different manufacturers work together. It sets the physical and electrical interface, the protocol and the command set, the operations for authentication, for reading and updating the user information and the service parameters, the key and security management, the status and error handling, and the conformance requirements. It took effect on 28 May 2024.
