1 Scope

China's national general technical requirements for disaster relief tents. A relief tent is a temporary dwelling deployed in the days after an earthquake, flood or typhoon, in conditions that determine every one of its requirements. It must be erected by untrained people, often at night, in wind, without tools - so the design is judged on how quickly and how reliably a family can put it up. It must be transportable in quantity, which sets the packed volume and weight. It must survive weeks or months rather than a weekend, in whatever weather the season brings, which is what separates it from a camping product. It must be flame retardant, because heating and cooking will happen inside it whatever the instructions say, and tent fires in relief camps have killed people. And it must be repairable, since a torn relief tent is not replaced.
