1 Scope

This document is intended to assist corrosion testing by means of electrochemical noise measurements.

This document specifies test procedures and analytical methods for valid testing of electrochemical noise of uncoated and organically coated metals.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in ISO 8044 and the following apply.

Electrochemical reactions and other processes (such as bubble initiation) generate low-frequency (<=1 Hz) and low-amplitude currents and the fluctuation phenomenon of position.

Fluctuations in the potential of an electrode relative to a reference electrode (usually in the range of µV to mV) or between two similar electrodes.

The current fluctuations between a single electrode or two electrodes (usually in the range of nA to µA).

The resistance is obtained by dividing the standard deviation of the potential noise during the test by the standard deviation of the current noise.

PSDE

The power obtained as a function of frequency expressed as potential noise.
