China's national standard for polyolefin cold stretch sleeve film. The film is used to unitise pallet loads by a method that competes with stretch wrapping and shrink hooding: a tube of elastic film is stretched open mechanically, lowered over the loaded pallet, and released, so that its own elasticity clamps the load. Nothing is heated, which is the advantage - shrink hooding requires an oven and the energy that goes with it, and stretch wrapping applies its force in one plane only, leaving the load free to move vertically. A cold stretch sleeve holds the load down onto the pallet as well as inward. What the film has to deliver is a combination that is not easy in a polyolefin: enough elastic recovery to keep clamping for weeks, enough strength not to split at the corners while being stretched several hundred per cent, and enough puncture resistance to survive a forklift.
