GB/T 43565-2023 is the English-translated version of 中小学合成材料面层篮球场地.
China's national standard for synthetic basketball court surfaces at primary and middle schools. It is the companion to the track and field standard and shares its origin in the contaminated school surfaces of the mid-2010s, and its requirements are built on the same two pillars: what the surface must be made of and what it may emit, tested both on the material and on the installed court. The performance requirements differ from a running track's because the sport does. A basketball surface is judged on ball rebound, which must be consistent across the court and close to that of a hard floor; on slip resistance, which has to be enough to allow a sudden stop and not so much that a pivot tears a knee; and on shock absorption, which protects joints during repeated landings. Those three trade against one another, which is why they are specified together rather than individually.
