3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 20103-2006 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 High salinity water
Salt water with a salt concentration higher than 15g/L.
3.2 Membrane pairs celpairs
The basic working unit of electrodialysis consists of a negative membrane, a fresh water separator, a positive membrane and a concentrated water separator in sequence. [Source: GB/T 20103-2006, 3.2.14, modified]
3.3 Membrane stack
The basic unit of electrodialysis is composed of several ion exchange membranes, separators, and water distribution plates arranged in an orderly manner.
3.4 Current efficiency

3.5 Effective membrane area
The membrane area in the membrane element that has separation effect.
