This Part of GB/T 3903 identically adopts the International Standard ISO 17697.2003

"Footwear - Test methods for uppers, lining and insocks - Seam strength" (English

version).

For easy use, this Part has the following editorial modifications.

a) "this International Standard" is modified into "this Part";

b) USE the decimal point "." to replace the comma "," used as decimal point;

c) DELETE the foreword of the International Standard;

d) DELETE the table of content of the International Standard;

e) for the EU standards referenced in ISO 17697.2003, this Part directly reference

the corresponding national standards;

f) DELETE the annex of the International Standard;

This Part was proposed by China Light Industry Council.

This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Footwear

of Standardization Administration of China.

Footwear - Test methods for uppers, lining and

insocks - Seam strength

1 Scope

This Part of GB/T 3903 specifies two test methods for determining the seam strength

of uppers, lining or insocks, in order to assess the suitability for the end use.

This Part is applicable to various kinds of uppers, lining and insocks of footwear.

Two methods are.

- Method A. Needle perforations. For determining the force required to pull a row of

needles through an upper material, in a direction perpendicular to the row.

- Method B. Stitched seams. For determining the breaking strength of stitched

seams in shoe upper and lining materials. This method is applicable to seams cut

from shoes or made up to simulate footwear constructions.
