Scope

GB/T 38235-2025 is the English-translated version of 工程用钢丝环形网.

GB/T 38235-2025 is the Chinese national standard for the steel wire ring mesh panels used as rockfall and debris-flow barriers in civil engineering.

It fixes the structural forms and specifications of the mesh, the requirements for the wire and its zinc or zinc-aluminium coating, the test methods, the inspection rules and the terms of delivery, packaging, marking and storage, including how mesh and mesh-opening sizes and the turns per ring are measured.

Wire ring diameter is allowed a deviation of ±4%, and the breaking force measured on a three-ring chain may differ from the type-test value by ±15%. It applies to protection against medium-risk rockfall, debris flows and avalanches on roads, railways, mines, municipal, water and hydropower works.

A modified adoption of ISO 17745:2016, it replaces GB/T 38235-2019, was issued on 29 August 2025 and applies from 1 March 2026.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting.

This document replaces GB/T 38235-2019 "Steel Wire Ring Mesh for Engineering Use". Compared with GB/T 38235-2019, the main differences are structural adjustments and... Aside from editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

---A schematic diagram of the wire winding process has been added (see 4.1);

---The commonly used nominal diameter 3.5mm steel wire has been changed, and the permissible deviation of the wire loop diameter has been specified as ±4% (see Table 1, 2019).

---Added specifications for wire diameter and nominal tensile strength grade; revised technical requirements for wire coating (see 5.1, 2019 version). 5.1);

---Added requirements for a uniform looping process for single-sheet ring netting and requirements for netting size tolerances (see 5.2.1);

---Added requirements for stating the nominal diameter, coating type and grade of the steel wire in the durability quality certificate (see 5.2.2).

---Added requirements to the mechanical performance quality certification documents to specify the specifications of the ring mesh and the nominal breaking tensile force of the three-ring chain.

The permissible deviation between the measured breaking tensile strength of the three-ring chain and the measured value during type testing is ±15% (see 5.2.3);

---The reference standard for the method of determining the quality of steel wire coating has been revised (see 6.1.2, 6.1.1 in the 2019 edition);

---Added methods for measuring mesh size, mesh opening dimensions, and the number of turns per loop (see 6.2.1);

---The inspection rules have been changed (see Chapter 7, Chapter 7 of the 2019 edition).

This document is modified to adopt ISO 17745:2016 "Definition and technical specifications of wire ring mesh".

This document has undergone significant structural adjustments compared to ISO 17745:2016.A table comparing the structural numbering changes between the two documents is provided. See Appendix A.

This document differs significantly from ISO 17745:2016 in several technical aspects. The relevant clauses are indicated in vertical margins.

Single lines (|) are indicated. A summary of these technical differences and their causes can be found in Appendix B. The following editorial changes have been made to this document.

---Change the standard name to "Engineering Steel Wire Ring Mesh".

1 Scope

This document specifies the structural forms, specifications, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and delivery details of steel wire ring mesh for engineering applications. Contents, packaging, labeling, and storage.

This document applies to medium-risk rockfalls, mudslides, and avalanches in highways, railways, mines, municipal works, water conservancy and hydropower projects, and industrial and civil construction.

Steel wire ring mesh (hereinafter referred to as steel wire ring mesh) is used for disaster prevention engineering.
