Scope

GB/T 38232-2025 is the English-translated version of 工程用钢丝绳网.

GB/T 38232-2025 covers the woven steel wire rope nets used as protection panels in civil engineering.

It describes the panel as a flat mesh of cross-woven ropes closed by a perimeter rope, and sets the structural forms and sizes, the requirements for the rope and its zinc or zinc-aluminium coating, the thickness and corrosion protection of the clip nodes, the tolerance on mesh side length and the certificate, which states rope specification, coating type and grade.

Test methods draw on tensile testing, coating mass, salt spray and light exposure, and inspection rules, packaging, marking and storage are also fixed. It is written for medium-risk rockfall, debris flow and avalanche protection on roads, railways, mines and hydropower works.

A modified adoption of ISO 17746:2016, it replaces GB/T 38232-2019, was issued on 29 August 2025 and applies from 1 March 2026.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting.

This document supersedes GB/T 38232-2019 "Steel Wire Rope Mesh for Engineering Use". Compared with GB/T 38232-2019, except for structural adjustments and weaving... Aside from the logical changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

---The reference to GB/T 2828.1 terms and definitions has been removed (see Chapter 3 of the 2019 edition);

---The technical requirements for wire rope coating have been revised (see 5.1.2, 2019 version of 5.1.2);

---The requirement for the diameter of the wire at the winding node has been removed (see 5.2.1 in the 2019 version);

---Added technical requirements for the thickness and corrosion protection of fastener nodes (see 5.2.1);

---Added technical requirements for the positive and negative tolerances of the mesh side length (see 5.3.1);

---Added requirements to the durability quality certification documents to specify the specifications, coating type, and grade of the wire rope (see 5.3.2);

---The visual inspection requirements for wire rope netting have been revised (see 6.3.1, 2019 version 6.3.1);

---The inspection rules have been changed (see Chapter 7, Chapter 7 of the 2019 edition).

This document is modified to adopt ISO 17746:2016 "Definition and technical specifications of wire rope mesh panels and rolls".

This document has undergone significant structural adjustments compared to ISO 17746:2016.A comparison of the structural numbering changes between the two documents is provided below. See Appendix A for the table.

This document differs significantly from ISO 17746:2016.The relevant clauses are indicated in vertical margins.

Single lines (|) are indicated. A summary of these technical differences and their causes can be found in Appendix B. The following editorial changes have been made to this document.

---The standard name has been changed to "Steel Wire Rope Net for Engineering".

1 Scope

This document specifies the structural forms, specifications, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and delivery contents of steel wire rope netting for engineering applications. Packaging, labeling and storage.

This document applies to medium-risk rockfalls, mudslides, and avalanches in highways, railways, mines, municipal works, water conservancy and hydropower projects, and industrial and civil construction.

Steel wire rope netting for disaster prevention projects (hereinafter referred to as steel wire rope netting).
