Scope
GB/T 38140-2019 is the English-translated version of 水泥抗海水侵蚀试验方法.
GB/T 38140-2019 sets out a test method for the behaviour of cement exposed to seawater, fixing its principle, test conditions, reagents and materials, equipment, test specimens, test procedure and the processing of the test data.
Clause 1 applies it to the determination and evaluation of the resistance of cement to seawater erosion, and the page records no exclusions.
Clause 3 gives the principle: demoulded cement mortar specimens are cured in water at 50 degrees Celsius plus or minus 1 degree for seven days and then split into two groups, one kept in water at 20 degrees Celsius plus or minus 1 degree until the specified age and the other saturated with a simulated seawater erosion solution and run through dry-wet cycles to the same age, the resistance being judged from the compressive strength retention rate, that is the ratio between the compressive strengths of the two groups.
Clause 4 puts the laboratory temperature and humidity under 4.1 of GB/T 17671-1999.
Clause 5 requires reagents of at least chemically pure grade and lists clean drinking water, with class III water to GB/T 6682 used in case of dispute, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bromide, sodium chloride and sodium sulfate, a 0.1 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution made by dissolving 4 g of sodium hydroxide and diluting to 1 L for storage in a plastic bottle, and sulfuric acid mixed one volume of concentrated acid to five volumes of water.
The other normative references are GB/T 17671-1999 on the ISO method for cement mortar strength, JC/T 738-2004 on the rapid determination of cement strength and JC/T 1086-2008 on the chloride ion diffusion coefficient of cement.
The standard was proposed by the China Building Materials Federation and is under the jurisdiction of the National Cement Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC184), its drafting list running to building materials institutes, testing companies and construction and water conservancy enterprises.
It carries ICS code 91.100.10 and Chinese classification Q11, was issued on 18 October 2019 and has applied since 1 September 2020.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the principle, test conditions, reagents and materials, equipment, test body, test procedure and test data processing of cement seawater erosion test method.
This standard applies to the detection and evaluation of cement seawater erosion resistance.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.
GB/T 6682 Analytical laboratory water specifications and test methods
GB/T 17671-1999 Cement mortar strength test method (ISO method)
JC/T 738-2004 Rapid test method for cement strength
JC/T 1086-2008 Cement chloride ion diffusion coefficient test method
3 Principle
The demolded cement mortar samples were cured in 50 °C ± 1 °C water for 7 days and then divided into two groups, one group immersed in water at a temperature of 20 °C ± 1 °C and maintained to the specified age, and the other group is fully saturated with the simulated seawater erosion solution to conduct the dry-wet cycle test to the specified age.
The detection of the compressive strength retention rate (ratio of the compressive strength of the two groups of samples) was evaluated for the seawater erosion resistance of the cement.
4 Test conditions
The temperature and humidity requirements of the laboratory shall comply with the requirements of 4.1 for the laboratory in GB/T 17671-1999.
5 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise stated, the reagents used should be no less than chemically pure.
5.1 Water. Clean drinking water. Class III water in accordance with GB/T 6682 is used in case of dispute.
5.2 Magnesium chloride (MgCl.6H2O).
5.3 Calcium chloride (CaCl2).
5.4 Potassium chloride (KCl).
5.5 Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3).
5.6 Potassium bromide (KBr).
5.7 Sodium chloride (NaCl).
5.8 Sodium sulfate (Na2SO4).
5.9 NaOH solution (0.1mol/L). Dissolve 4g of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in water, dilute to 1L with water, and store in plastic bottle.
5.10 Sulfuric acid (1+5). 1 part by volume of concentrated sulfuric acid is mixed with 5 parts by volume of water.
