3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

biodegradable plastic shopping bags Bags made primarily from biodegradable resins, featuring a carrying structure, used in sales, service, and other settings for holding and carrying goods.

biodegradable plastic shopping bags used for food contacting Plastic shopping bags made from films produced primarily from various biodegradable resins and processed through bag-making processes such as heat sealing or bonding, which, under normal use conditions, may or are expected to come into contact with food or food additives, or whose components may migrate into food.

biodegradable plastic shopping bags not used for food contacting Plastic shopping bags made from films produced primarily from various biodegradable resins and processed through bag-making processes such as heat sealing or bonding, which do not come into direct contact with food or food additives.

4 Classification

Biodegradable plastic shopping bags can be divided into two categories based on whether they come into contact with food. biodegradable plastic shopping bags used for food contacting and biodegradable plastic shopping bags not used for food contacting.
