1 Scope

This standard specifies the quarantine and identification methods for Mycosphaerella pini in Pinus, other host plants and plant materials.

This standard is applicable to the quarantine and identification of Mycosphaerella pini in the seedlings and branches of Pinus and related species.

Scientific name: Mycosphaerella pini E. Rostrup apud Munk (Evans, 1984).

Synonyms: Eruptio pini (Rostr.) M.E. Barr; Scirrhia pini Funk; Cytosporina septospora G. Doroguine; Septoriella septospora (G. Dorog.) Sacc.; Actinothyrium marginatum Sacc.; Dothistroma pini var. lineare Thyr; Dothistroma septosporum var. lineare Thyr; Dothistroma pini var. keniense M.H. Classification status: Fungi, Ascomycota, Dothideomycetes, Capnodiales, Mycosphaerellaceae, Mycosphaerella. The asexual form is Dothistroma septosporum (Dorog.) Morelet. See Appendix A for additional information on the pathogen.

4 Principle of the method

This method takes the symptoms of the disease and the morphological, culture and molecular biological characteristics of the fungus as the main basis for quarantine identification.

The host and the geographical distribution are used as a basis for auxiliary identification.
