1 Scope

China's national standard for the master controller of a rail vehicle. It specifies the conditions of use, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage, and it applies to locomotive and vehicle driver's controllers. The master controller is the handle the driver moves to demand power and brake. Everything the traction system does begins there, which makes it one of the few components on a train that is simultaneously a safety device, a control input and a piece of furniture the driver touches thousands of times a shift. Its requirements are correspondingly mixed. It must give the driver an unambiguous tactile sense of notch position without looking; it must fail in a defined direction, so that a broken connection commands coast or brake rather than power; it usually carries the driver's vigilance function; and it must survive years of vibration and a cab environment that ranges from freezing to baking. That combination is why it is specified as a product rather than as part of the control system.

This standard specifies the conditions of use of the driver controller, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs, packaging, transportation and storage. This standard applies to locomotive and vehicle driver controller.

3 Terms and definitions
