Foreword

This document was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020, Directives for standardization - Part

1.Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents. This document replaces GB/T 32446-2015 General technical requirements for glass furniture and GB 28008-2011 Safety requirements of glass furniture. Compared with GB/T 32446-2015, in addition to editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) Remove the classification by use functions (see

4.2 of the 2015 edition);

b) Change the appearance specification (see 5.3;

5.3 of the 2015 edition);

c) Change the technical requirements for the physical and chemical properties of soft and hard coverings on wooden parts (see Item 4 of Table 3 of 5.4; Items 10 ~ 18 of Table 3 of

5.4 of the 2015 edition); add technical requirements for the physical and chemical properties of plastic parts (see Item 7 of Table 3 of 5.4);

d) Add requirements and test methods for general structure safety (see Item 1 of Table 4 of

5.5 and Item 1 of Table 6 of 6.5); remove the requirements and test methods for appearance safety (see Item 3 of Table 4 of

5.5 and Item 3 of Table 6 of

6.5 of the 2015 edition); remove the requirements and test methods for safety of wooden parts and metal parts (see Item 7 of Table 4 of

1 Scope

GB/T 32446-2024 is the Chinese general standard for glass furniture: tables, shelves, cabinets and screens whose structural elements are glass. Glass furniture is the category with the most serious injury profile in the whole sector, because when it fails it does not sag or wobble, it breaks, and it does so under load or under a thermal or impact event that ordinary furniture would absorb. The standard is written around that. It sets the classification, the requirements on the glass itself including the type, the thickness, the edge treatment and the requirement for toughened or laminated glass by application, the requirements on the fittings and the joints between glass and other materials, the appearance and workmanship requirements, the strength and stability requirements with the static and impact load tests, the requirements on the fragmentation behaviour and on the retention of fragments where laminated glass is used, the limits on harmful substances in the coatings and adhesives, and the marking and instructions, together with the test methods and the inspection rules. The 2024 edition replaces GB/T 32446-2015.

This document specifies the classification, requirements, inspection rules and marking, instruction for use, packaging, transportation and storage of glass furniture, and describes the test methods. This document applies to quality control during the design, production, installation, and sale of glass furniture and its components.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions, as well as those given in GB 28008-2024, GB/T 3324-2017, GB/T 3325-2017 and GB/T 28202, apply.

3.1 metal disk for connect A metal disk used to support glass components, bonded to the glass panel material by adhesives or other means.

3.2 glass revolving plate A rotatable glass disk-shaped component.

4 Product classification

Classified by the materials used.

a) Tempered glass furniture;

b) Semi-tempered glass furniture;

c) Flat glass furniture.

5 Requirements

5.1 Major dimensional deviations (general items) The limit deviation of the width, depth and height of the product shall be ±5 mm. The limit deviation of matching or combined products shall be positive or negative.
