Scope

GB/T 31270.23-2025 is the English-translated version of 化学农药环境安全评价试验准则 第23部分:鸟类急性经口毒性试验.

GB/T 31270.23-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the acute oral toxicity of a pesticide to birds - the species and their conditioning, the dosing by gavage and the observation period, the mortality and the LD50 derived from it, which becomes one of the risk numbers in the registration dossier. It replaces GB/T 31270.9-2014 and renumbers it as Part 23 of the series. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 31270.9-2014.

1 Scope

GB/T 31270.23-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the acute oral toxicity of a pesticide to birds - the species and their conditioning, the dosing by gavage and the observation period, the mortality and the LD50 derived from it, which becomes one of the risk numbers in the registration dossier. It replaces GB/T 31270.9-2014 and renumbers it as Part 23 of the series. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 31270.9-2014.

This document describes the experimental conditions, reagents and materials, instruments and equipment, and subjects for determining the acute oral toxicity of chemical pesticides in birds using a sequential method. Materials, test procedures, test data processing, quality control, and test reports. This document applies to acute oral toxicity tests in birds for the registration of chemical pesticides.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Reversal In two adjacent treatment groups, the mortality rate of the low-dose group was higher than that of the high-dose group.

3.2 Partial death The phenomenon that multiple test birds given the same dose of the test substance had a mortality rate ranging from 0% to 100%.

4.Principles The experiment consisted of multiple phases, in which the test substance was administered orally at the designed dose to the crop or proventriculus of the test birds in each phase. After administration, observation was conducted. 14 days. The median lethal dose (LD50) is usually estimated based on the mortality rate of the test birds in each treatment group 3 days after administration, and the next phase of the experiment is set accordingly. Dosage. The LD50 of the test substance for the test birds and its 95% confidence interval were calculated based on the results of all phases of the test.

5 Test conditions

5.1 The minimum habitat area per bird is. Rock Pigeon 3333 cm2, Mallard.2000 cm2, Quail and Mountain Partridge 1000 cm2, Zebra Finch and Budgerigar 500cm2.
