Scope

GB/T 29324-2024 is the English-translated version of 架空导线用碳纤维增强复合材料芯.

GB/T 29324-2024 is the Chinese standard for the carbon fibre composite core used in overhead conductors. Replacing the steel core of a conductor with a carbon fibre one is the standard way of increasing the capacity of an existing transmission line without rebuilding the towers: the composite is lighter and has a far lower thermal expansion, so the conductor sags less and can be run hotter, and a line can carry substantially more current on the same route. Everything then depends on the core, because it carries the whole mechanical load and it is inside the conductor for forty years where nobody can inspect it. The standard sets the classification and designation, the requirements on the constituent materials, the dimensions and tolerances, the mechanical properties including tensile strength, modulus and the retention of strength after ageing, the thermal properties including the coefficient of expansion and the temperature capability, the requirements on the resistance to torsion, bending and crushing, the electrical and environmental requirements, and the test methods, inspection rules and marking. The 2024 edition replaces GB/T 29324-2012.

1 Scope

GB/T 29324-2024 is the Chinese standard for the carbon fibre composite core used in overhead conductors. Replacing the steel core of a conductor with a carbon fibre one is the standard way of increasing the capacity of an existing transmission line without rebuilding the towers: the composite is lighter and has a far lower thermal expansion, so the conductor sags less and can be run hotter, and a line can carry substantially more current on the same route. The 2024 edition replaces GB/T 29324-2012.

This document specifies the product model and representation method, structure, technology and application of carbon fiber reinforced composite core (referred to as "composite core") for overhead conductors: Technical requirements, inspection rules, packaging, marking, transportation and storage, acceptance and rejection, and describes the corresponding test methods: This document applies to the manufacture, testing and application of carbon fiber reinforced composite reinforcement cores for overhead conductors:
