Scope
GB/T 24214-2009 is the English-translated version of 煤焦油水分快速测定方法.
GB/T 24214-2009 lays down a quick method for determining the water content of coal tar, fixing the principle of the determination, the taking of samples, the instruments and reagents, the test procedure, the calculation of the test result and the test error.
Clause 1 states that it applies to the determination of moisture in coal tar. A warning at the head of the text says the product is flammable and toxic, that appropriate protection should be arranged for the operation, and that the operator must be careful with the toxic reagents the method uses.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 1999 and GB/T 8170. Clause 3, the principle of the method, mixes calcium carbide with the coal tar sample under constant stirring, collects in a gas measuring tube the acetylene generated when the water in the sample reacts with the calcium carbide, and calculates the moisture content from the volume of gas produced.
Clause 4, instruments, reagents and materials, lists a flat hard-glass gas generating bottle of 250 mL with a ground mouth and a number 9 stopper, a 500 mL gas measuring tube graduated in 5 mL, a carbide weighing tube of about 5 mL, an ordinary glass thermometer reading 0 to 100 degrees C in steps of 1 degree C, a 500 mL buffer bottle, a 500 mL standard bottle, scales graduated in 0.01 g and a magnetic stirrer with a heating function and controllable stirring speed, together with calcium carbide of at least 300 L/kg gas evolution and particle size below 0.2 mm, analytical reagent toluene, medical cotton wool and glass and latex connecting tubing.
Clause 5 takes the samples according to GB/T 1999, and the draft ends there, so the test procedure, the calculation and the error clauses are not shown. It was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association and is under the jurisdiction of the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee.
The page names no superseded edition; the standard was issued on 2009-07-08 and has applied since 2010-04-01.

3 PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD
Calcium carbide and coal tar sample by mixing, stirring constantly under conditions in which water reacts with the calcium carbide acetylene amount Trachea collect, calculate the moisture content according to the volume of gas produced.
Chemical reaction equation. CaC2 + 2H2O = Ca (OH) 2 + C2H2 ->
