Scope

GB/T 22599-2008 is the English-translated version of 水处理化学品砷含量测定方法.

GB/T 22599-2008 specifies two methods for determining the arsenic content of water treatment chemicals, as a general test method called up by the individual product standards.

The silver diethyldithiocarbamate spectrophotometric method reduces arsenic with zinc to arsine, absorbs it in a pyridine solution of Ag(DDTC) and measures the absorbance at 540 nm against a calibration curve; it applies to test solutions containing 1 µg to 20 µg of arsenic (as As).

The arsenic spot method reduces As(V) to As(III) with potassium iodide and stannous chloride, generates arsine with zinc and compares the brownish-yellow stain on mercuric bromide test paper with a series of standard stains; it applies to 1 µg to 5 µg of arsenic.

For each method the standard sets out the reagents, the glassware cleaning and test apparatus with dimensioned figures, the preparation of test and blank solutions, the procedure and the evaluation of results, leaving the final calculation formula to the product standard.
