Introduction

The GB/T 21782 series of standards covers the testing and evaluation of key indicators of powder coatings, such as particle size distribution, density determination, and storage stability.

This series of standards defines a set of tests and applications for powder coatings. Each document in this series describes a specific set of tests and applications. The GB/T 21782 series of standards aims to provide a standard for powder coatings.

This standard provides a unified and reliable testing process for manufacturers and powder coating testers, and supports product quality control, safe production, and international standards.

Trade provides scientific support. The GB/T 21782 series of standards is proposed to consist of the following 13 parts.

---Part 1: Determination of Particle Size Distribution by Sieving Method. The purpose is to specify two methods, manual and mechanical sieving, for determining particle size distribution.

Powder coating particle size distribution.

---Part 2: Determination of Density by Gas Comparative Hydrometer Method (Arbitration Method). The purpose is to define a method for determining density based on the principle of gas displacement, using gas...

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 21782.14 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

Deposition efficiency the ratio of the mass of deposited powder to the mass of ejected powder.

Note. Expressed as mass fraction (%).

4 Principles

Under known atmospheric temperature and humidity conditions, powder was sprayed onto five similar steel pipes covered with aluminum foil at a known flow rate, and the sedimentation was measured.

The deposition rate is calculated from the mass of powder accumulated on the intermediate steel pipe. The operation should be performed in a fume hood. The results depend on the chemical composition of the powder.

Factors such as chemical composition, density, particle size distribution, particle shape, flow characteristics of the mixture in air, and moisture content.

5 Instruments

5.1 Apparatus

It consists of five steel pipes, each with an outer diameter of 25mm and a length of 500mm, and a suspension device. Each steel pipe has a hole drilled at one end to allow the steel to pass through.

The pipes can be suspended vertically. The center-to-center distance between the steel pipes is equal, ranging from 95mm to 105mm. Each steel pipe should be grounded, with a grounding resistance of [missing value].

No more than 100ohm.

5.2 Cleaning aluminum foil

It is advisable to use aluminum foil with a thickness of 0.03mm to 0.2mm and a width sufficient to wrap the steel pipe.
