3 Terms, definitions and abbreviations

3.1 Terms and Definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in IEC 60050-845 and IEC 62341-1-2 and the following apply.

3.1.1

Visual inspection

A method of inspecting image quality by observing the test sample with human eyes and comparing it with the standard sample.

3.1.2

Subpixel defects

The full or partial brightness of a single sub-pixel (the smallest unit of color) is significantly brighter or darker than the surrounding sub-pixels of the same color.

Note 1.Further classification of sub-pixel defects depends on the number and composition of multiple sub-pixel defects in a display area.

NOTE 2 For monochrome displays, the term "point defect" may be used.

3.1.3

A defect in which a sub-pixel or dot is significantly brighter than surrounding sub-pixels of the same color when driven by a uniformly dark or gray background signal.
