Typical applications include, but are not limited to. ---Heating devices installed inside or under the surface; ---Direct and storage heating; --- Snow melting and frost protection for roofs, gutters, and pipes.

Resistance heating systems, such as mineral-insulated heating cables, are described in detail in the IEC 62395 series of standards for industrial and commercial applications.

The application of explosive atmospheres is detailed in the IEC/IEEE 60079-30 series of standards. Applications with sheaths operating at temperatures exceeding 100°C are not covered by this document.

The purpose of this document is to ensure the safe operation of heating cables under normal, specified operating conditions.

This is achieved through the following methods. ---Use heating cables of appropriate construction that meet the test requirements described in this document; ---Including heating cables with electrical protection components, featuring a metal braided structure, concentric conductors or sheath, or other suitable conductive materials.

Materials for protection in the event of a failure; ---The construction and installation materials for heating cables should comply with national regulations to ensure that the heating cables operate at safe temperatures.
