Scope
GB/T 18916.66-2024 is the English-translated version of 工业用水定额 第66部分:石材.
GB/T 18916.66-2024 is the sixty-sixth part of the GB/T 18916 series on norms of water intake for industry and deals with stone. It lays down the calculation method, the norm of water intake and the management requirements, and applies to water management in enterprises producing natural stone and synthetic stone products. The calculation of water intake takes in surface water metered at the water treatment plant, groundwater, urban supply and bought-in water products such as steam, hot water and geothermal water. For natural stone the production boundary runs from block trimming and sawing through grinding and polishing to cutting of the finished product; for synthetic stone it runs from batching, mixing and distribution of the mix through pressing, curing, demoulding, block cutting, grinding, polishing and application of the protective coating to cutting of the finished product. In both cases the auxiliary and ancillary systems of the works are counted as well. Water intake per unit of product is expressed in cubic metres per square metre of conforming product, and Table 1 sets an advanced value and a general value for natural stone and for synthetic stone, the first governing new and rebuilt plants and the second existing ones.

1 Scope, normative references and terms
1 The document lays down the calculation method, the norm of water intake and the management requirements for stone. It applies to water management in enterprises producing natural stone and synthetic stone products.
2 The normative references are GB/T 12452 on the general rules for water balance testing, GB/T 18600 on natural slate, GB/T 18601 on natural granite building slabs, GB/T 18820 on the general rules for drawing up norms of water intake for industry, GB/T 19766 on natural marble building slabs, GB/T 21534 on water saving terminology, GB/T 23453 on natural limestone building slabs, GB/T 24789 on the general rules for the provision and management of water measuring instruments in water-using units, GB/T 29059 on ultra-thin composite stone panels, GB/T 35157 on resin-type synthetic stone slabs, JC/T 507 on terrazzo for architectural decoration, JC/T 908 on artificial stone, JC/T 2087 on artificial stone with a natural-look face for architectural decoration, JC/T 2534 and JC/T 2535 on artificial quartz stone and agglomerated stone floor tiles and wall panels for building, and JG/T 463 on artificial quartz stone panels for architectural decoration.
3 The terms and definitions of GB/T 18820 and GB/T 21534 apply.
4 Calculation method
4.1.1 The scope of calculation of the water sources covers water taken from surface water, metered as the supply of the water treatment plant, from groundwater and from the urban water supply works, together with other water or water products bought on the market by the enterprise, such as steam, hot water and geothermal water.
4.1.2 The scope of calculation of the water intake for natural stone production covers the main production system, namely block trimming, block sawing, grinding, polishing and cutting of the finished product; the auxiliary production system, namely power, electricity supply, water supply, laboratory, machine repair, stores, transport, the raw material yard inside the works and the safety and environmental protection facilities; and the ancillary production system, namely offices, staff canteen, workshop showers, health post, planting and dust suppression.
4.1.3 The scope of calculation of the water intake for synthetic stone production covers the main production system, namely batching, mixing, distribution of the mix, pressing, curing, demoulding, cutting of the block, grinding, polishing, application of the protective coating and cutting of the finished product; the auxiliary production system, namely power, electricity supply, water supply, laboratory, machine repair, stores, transport, the raw material yard inside the works and the safety and environmental protection facilities; and the ancillary production system, namely offices, staff canteen, workshop showers, health post, planting and dust suppression.
4.2 The water intake per unit of product is calculated from the equation given in the document. Its symbols are the water intake per unit of product, in cubic metres per square metre; the total water intake during the production process over the statistical period, in cubic metres; and the total output of conforming product over the statistical period, in square metres. Conforming natural stone product is to meet GB/T 18600, GB/T 18601, GB/T 19766 and GB/T 23453; synthetic stone is to meet GB/T 29059, GB/T 35157, JC/T 507, JC/T 908, JC/T 2087, JC/T 2534, JC/T 2535 and JG/T 463.
5 Norm of water intake and management requirements
5 The norm of water intake for stone is to meet Table 1, which gives the water intake per unit of product in cubic metres per square metre as an advanced value and a general value for each product type. For natural stone the advanced value is 0.080 and the general value 0.240. For synthetic stone the advanced value is 0.017 and the general value 0.090.
6.1 The general value of the norm is used for day to day water management and water saving assessment in existing enterprises, while the advanced value is used for water resources appraisal, water abstraction licence approval and water saving assessment of new enterprises and of extensions and rebuilds.
6.2 Water balance testing in the enterprise is to meet GB/T 12452.
6.3 The provision and management of water measuring instruments in the enterprise is to meet GB/T 24789.
