1 Scope

GB/T 17699.3-2024 is the EDIFACT segment directory in the Chinese standards system. UN/EDIFACT is the international syntax that customs declarations, transport documents, invoices and orders have moved on for decades, and although newer formats exist it remains the backbone of cross-border trade documentation, including with China. A message in that syntax is assembled from segments, and a segment is only interpretable if both parties hold the same directory: this document is that directory. It sets out how a segment is described, the status of each data element within a segment structure, mandatory or conditional, the character types, the notes convention and the way the directory is presented, and then gives the directory itself in two parts, the batch EDI segments and the interactive EDI segments. The 2024 edition replaces GB/T 15634-2014. For a freight forwarder, a customs software vendor or anyone exchanging trade documents with Chinese counterparties, this is the reference.
