Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

Drafting.

This document supersedes GB/T 14897.1-1994 "Basic Terminology of Woodworking Tools" and GB/T 14897.2-1994 "Technical Specifications of Woodworking Tools".

The following standards are relevant to the technical specifications of woodworking tools. "Terminology for Saws", GB/T 14897.3-1994 "Terminology for Woodworking Tools - Milling Cutters", and GB/T 14897.4-1994 "Terminology for Woodworking Tools - Drill Bits".

GB/T 14897.5-1994 "Woodworking Tools Terminology. Square Chisels and Drills". Compared with the above standards, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main differences are...

The technological changes are as follows.

---The term "mortise and tenon cutting tool" has been deleted (see section 2.4 of GB/T 14897.1-1994);

---The terms "polycrystalline diamond tools" and "ceramic tools" have been added (see 3.1.2.7 and 3.1.2.8);

---The term "carbide circular saw blade for woodworking" has been removed (see section 3.2 of GB/T 14897.2-1994);

---A new chapter on "Terminology for Clamping Blades for Woodworking Machines" has been added (see Chapter 5);

---The terms "carbon tool steel end mills," "carbide tool steel end mills," "high-speed steel end mills," and "carbide end mills" have been removed (see [link]).

GB/T 14897.3-1994, sections 3.1.1 to 3.1.4);

---The terms "solid end mill," "clamped end mill," "welded end mill," and "combination end mill" have been removed (see GB/T 14897.3-1994).

3.2.1~3.2.4);

---The terms "straightness of cutter teeth" (see 6.4.1, 7.1 of GB/T 14897.3-1994) and "thickness difference of the same tooth" (see...) have been changed.

6.4.3 (GB/T 14897.3-1994) and the term "poor quality of grouped cutting teeth" (see 6.4.4, GB/T 14897.3-1994) 7.4);

---The terms "carbon tool steel drill bit", "alloy tool steel drill bit", "high-speed steel drill bit", and "carbide drill bit" have been removed (see [link]).

GB/T 14897.4-1994, sections 3.1.1 to 3.1.4);

---The terms "straight shank woodworking twist drill" and "fine straight shank woodworking twist drill" have been deleted (see section 3.5.1 of GB/T 14897.4-1994).

3.5.2);

---The terms "working part" (see 4.1.2 of GB/T 14897.5-1994) and "cutting edge (edge)" (see...) have been deleted.

GB/T 14897.5-1994, 4.2.4), the term "reverse cutting edge wedge angle" (see GB/T 14897.5-1994, 5.1.5), "cone apex" the term "angle" (see 5.2.1 of GB/T 14897.5-1994);

---Added the terms "tapered drill bit" (see 7.1.5.1), "self-centering drill bit" (see 7.1.5.5), and "centering tip" to the table.

(7.2.4), the term "cutting edge" (see 7.2.9), the term "drill shank diameter" (see 7.3.2), the term "cutting edge width" (see 7.3.13), and the term "cutting edge" (see 7.3.13).

The terms "back depth" (see 7.3.14), "chisel edge length" (see 7.3.16), and "main cutting edge length" (see 7.3.17) are used.

---The term "regular polyhedral shank drill bit" has been changed (see 7.1.3.4, 3.4.4 of GB/T 14897.4-1994);

---The term "core increment" has been changed (see 7.3.10, 4.17 of GB/T 14897.4-1994);

---A new chapter on "Abrasive Terminology" has been added (see Chapter 8).
