Introduction
GB/T 12692, "Classification of Petroleum Products Fuels (Category F)," currently consists of four parts based on the actual use of the products.
---Part 1.General Provisions;
---Part 2.Types of Marine Fuel Oils;
---Part 3.Fuels for Industrial and Marine Gas Turbines;
---Part 4.Liquefied Petroleum Gas (L Group)
In order to standardize the classification of fuel types used by seagoing vessels, inland waterway vessels, and river-sea direct vessels navigating within my country's administrative jurisdiction, and to appropriately...
In light of the current supply and demand of low-sulfur marine fuel oil and biofuel oil in the marine fuel oil market, this paper addresses the international standard ISO 8216-1 "Petroleum..."
The development of the classification of marine fuels (Category F) and products derived from synthetic and renewable feedstocks, Part 1.Marine Fuels (English version).
Following up on this, this document was developed based on ISO 8216-1.2024.
With the requirements of environmental and carbon emission regulations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2020 Sulfur Cap and the IMO Net Zero Framework...
With increasingly stringent regulations, the international market for marine fuel is rapidly shifting from high-sulfur fuel oil with a sulfur content (mass fraction) greater than 0.50% to fuel oil with lower sulfur content.
Low-sulfur fuel oil with a mass fraction of no more than 0.50%, while shifting from traditional petroleum-based fuel products to synthetic and renewable fuel products.
ISO 8216-1.2024 permits the blending of FAME components into distillate fuel oils and residual fuel oils in any proportion. Currently, the domestic market supplies...
In the marine fuel market, traditional petroleum-based fuels still dominate, but fuel oils blended with fAME have already been introduced in several coastal ports.
The trial refueling has been completed, and several ports in Zhoushan Port and the Pearl River Estuary area have the ability to routinely refuel fuel oil blended with FAME.
This revision of the standard specifies detailed classifications of petroleum-based marine fuel oils and bio-based marine fuel oils using separate tables; it no longer limits...
The blending ratio of FAME in distillate fuel oil and residual fuel oil is specified, but the FAME content must comply with relevant Chinese laws and regulations and biological standards.
The standards for marine fuel oils and the guidelines for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) stipulate that, in order to more clearly reflect the sulfur content of domestic and international marine fuel products...
Regarding the classification of sulfur content (mass fraction) for distillate fuel oils, this revision clarifies the classification, including a sulfur content grading system that takes into account inland waterway applications.
For grades with a sulfur content (mass fraction) not exceeding 0.001%, this revision also clearly specifies the sulfur content (mass fraction) range for high-sulfur residual fuel oil.
The range is greater than 0.50% and not greater than 3.50%. This document also considers the diverse fuel requirements of different types of ship engines.
Based on actual market conditions and fuel demand, adjustments were made to the types of distillate fuels and residue fuels.
GB 17411 and related biofuel standards for marine use provide detailed technical requirements for various marine fuels.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Fatty acid monomethyl esters are produced by reacting animal and vegetable oils or waste oils with methanol.
4 Symbol Explanation
4.1 Marine fuel oils are classified in detail by defining their main applications and characteristics. GB/T 12692.1 provides the following.
Marine fuel oil is grouped into two groups. "Group D" distillate fuel and "Group R" residue fuel.
4.2 GB/T 12692.1 specifies the method of representing products, which uses a symbol composed of a set of letters to represent products.
The product symbol consists of the following letters.
a) The abbreviation for the International Organization for Standardization, "ISO ".
b) The letter "F" represents fuel.
c) The composition of fuel types is as follows.
1) The first letter indicates the group. "D" represents the distillation type, and "R" represents the residue type;
2) The second letter is usually M, where M stands for "ship". For fuels containing FAME, "M" is replaced with "F".
3) The third letter, "A", "B", and "Z", further details the fuel types; see Marine Fuels for their specific meanings.
Oil specifications standard GB 17411.
d) For DM grade distillate fuels, the maximum sulfur content of the fuel is expressed by the sulfur content (mass fraction) limit.
e) For DF grade distillate fuels, the maximum sulfur content is expressed as a limit (mass fraction) of sulfur content, using common domestic and international commercial standards.
The grades of biofuel oils used in commercial bunkering (such as B24 and B30) indicate the maximum FAME content in the fuel.
Note. In B24 grade biofuel oil for marine use, the volume or mass fraction of FAME is greater than 20% and not greater than 24%; in B30 grade biofuel oil for marine use...
In fuel oil, the volume fraction or mass fraction of FAME is greater than 24% and not greater than 30%.
f) For RM grade residual fuels, the maximum kinematic viscosity at 50°C is expressed numerically in millimeters per second (mm^2/s).
The unit is the maximum sulfur content of fuel, expressed as a limit for sulfur content (mass fraction).
