GB/T 11848.4-2025 is the English-translated version of 铀矿石浓缩物分析方法 第4部分:砷、汞的测定 氢化物发生-原子荧光光谱法.
GB/T 11848.4-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering arsenic and mercury in yellowcake — the dissolution and the pre-reduction, the hydride generation that separates the analyte from a uranium matrix that would otherwise swamp the measurement, and the atomic fluorescence detection. It replaces GB/T 11848.4-1989, a standard thirty-six years old. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 5 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 11848.4-1989.

4 Principles
After sample digestion, potassium borohydride in hydrochloric acid medium reduced arsenic and mercury to gaseous arsenic hydride and atomic mercury, respectively, which were then introduced by argon gas as a carrier gas.
Atomization is performed using a quartz furnace atomizer, with a special hollow cathode lamp as the excitation source. The atoms of the element to be analyzed are excited by the light radiation, causing electron transitions.
When an excited-state electron returns to the ground state, it emits fluorescence of a specific wavelength. Within a certain concentration range, the fluorescence intensity is correlated with the concentration of the analyte.
The arsenic and mercury contents are directly proportional and are calculated using the standard curve method.
5 Reagents or materials
Unless otherwise specified, all reagents used were of analytical grade. The water used in the experiments met the Class III water standard specified in GB/T 6682.
5.1 Hydrochloric acid, rho=1.19g/mL.
5.2 Nitric acid, rho=1.42g/mL.
