Scope

GB 31060-2014 is the English-translated version of 水处理剂 硫酸铝.

GB 31060-2014 is a mandatory national standard for aluminium sulfate used as a water treatment chemical. Aluminium sulfate is the workhorse coagulant of water treatment: added to raw water it hydrolyses, neutralises the charge holding fine particles in suspension, and lets them aggregate into flocs that can be settled and filtered out. Because it is dosed directly into water that will be drunk, its purity is a public health matter rather than a commercial one — the impurities that matter are the heavy metals, arsenic and lead among them, that would otherwise be introduced deliberately into the supply by the very chemical meant to clean it. That is why this is a GB rather than a GB/T: compliance is compulsory. The standard specifies the classification, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, and the marks, labels and packaging for aluminium sulfate. It applies to aluminium sulfate used as a water treatment agent, principally for drinking water and industrial water, and for wastewater and sewage treatment. Under ICS 71.100.80 and CCS G77, it is the reference for chemical manufacturers, water utilities and the health authorities supervising them.

Foreword

This document was issued on 22 December 2014 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of the PRC and takes effect on 1 October 2015.

It is a GB standard without the /T suffix: compliance is mandatory in China.

1 Scope

This Standard specifies the requirements, classification, test methods, inspection rules,

marks, labels and packaging of aluminum sulfate.

This Standard applies to aluminum sulfate used as a water treatment agent. The product

is mainly used for drinking water and industrial water, waste water and sewage

treatment. Among them, the raw sulfuric acid used for drinking water shall be industrial

sulfuric acid; aluminum-containing raw materials shall be industrial aluminum

hydroxide.
