Foreword

This Standard was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This Standard revised FZ/T 20002-1991 Determination of the Rate of Fat-Containing Wool Textiles. Compared with FZ/T 20002-1991, the major changes of this Standard are as follows:

--- Add the standard English title to the cover;

--- Add safety warnings to the Clause on reagents;

• Change the requirement for analytical balance sensitivity into "accurate to 0.0001 g";

• Change the sampling to collecting at least 30 g of a representative sample; and incorporate the content of Subclause 7.1 from the original standard into this Clause;

• Make the editorial modifications to the test procedure;

• Cancel the requirement to weigh to constant mass;

• Change the drying time to 4 h;

• Change the symbols for weight in the formulas into symbols for mass;

• Add requirements for handling discrepancies in calculation results;

• Change the precision of the calculated result from "two digits after the decimal point" to "one digit after the decimal point".

This Standard was proposed by China National Textile and Apparel Council.

1 Scope

This Standard specifies a method for determining the oil/fat content of wool textiles using diethyl ether as the extraction agent.

This Standard is applicable to the determination of oil/fat content in raw materials, semifinished products, and finished products made of pure wool or wool blends.

3 Principle

The specimen is extracted with diethyl ether in a Soxhlet extractor; and the extraction solvent is subsequently evaporated to determine the mass of the residual oil/fat, thereby calculating the percentage of the dry oil/fat mass relative to the dry weight of the specimen.

4 Reagents

Diethyl ether: Analytically pure or chemically pure.

5 Apparatus and Equipment

5.1 Soxhlet extractor: Extractor capacity no less than 150 mL; flask capacity no less than 250 mL.

6 Preparation of Specimen

6.1 Sampling: Take at least 30 g of a representative sample, accurate to 0.01 g.

6.2 Weigh two portions of specimens, each weighing 5 g ~ 10 g (accurate to 0.01 g); and wrap each portion of sample in qualitative filter paper (ensuring appropriate tightness).

7 Test Procedure

7.1 Before use, dry the weighing dish and flask in a constant-temperature oven at 105 °C ± 3 °C for 4 h; then transfer them to a desiccator to cool before recording their masses, accurate to 0.0001 g. 7.2 Set up the Soxhlet extractor on a constant-temperature water bath; connect the cooling tube; and heat the water bath. 7.3 Place two portions of specimens, each wrapped in qualitative filter paper, into the extractor; ensuring the specimens are positioned below the highest point of the siphon tube. 7.4 Turn on the cooling water supply. Connect the flask (of known mass) to the extractor. Pour diethyl ether into the top of the extractor until the specimens are submerged; and the liquid level rises above the siphon tube to initiate siphoning. Attach the condenser; then place the entire assembly onto the constant-temperature water bath. 7.5 Maintain the water bath temperature so that the diethyl ether in the flask boils gently; […]

8 Calculation

Calculate the oil/fat content of the specimen using Formula (1):

α – oil/fat content of the specimen;

m1 dry mass of the oil/fac, in g;

m2 dry mass of the test specimen after degreasing, in g.

The result for the specimen shall be expressed as the arithmetic mean of the results from two specimens. If the relative difference between the results of the two specimens exceeds 25%, a third specimen shall be tested; and the result shall be expressed as the arithmetic mean of the three tests. The calculated result shall be rounded to one digit after the decimal point in accordance with GB/T 8170.

9 Test Report

The test report shall include the following information:

a) Number and year of this Standard;

b) Name and specifications of the sample;

d) Average value of the test results;

e) Explanation of any special circumstances encountered during the test.
